RE: APRIL STATUS REPORT

Item 1: Des Moines Exhibition
Despite initial glitch, strong showing at the Des Moines show. Show managers lost our reservation, but I was able to secure a spot [link to photo of show] with a foldable cafeteria table and Kinko’s signage that provided us significant cost efficiencies (Note: “thinking on feet” key characteristic of management potential). Results: massive new accounts and solid commitments. Intend to forward The Orders as soon as we locate/process The Orders from Columbus – can’t risk adding internal complexity now. Confidence? High! Expect no problems with The Numbers.

Item 2: Seasonal Corporate Positioning

Coming out of Des Moines, one thing is certain: we must be more dynamic in our use of corporate positioning. I market tested a variety of messaging approaches. Found that consistency will not serve us in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace. I recommend a seasonal approach. To that end, I have the remainder of the year plotted as follows, and will update you real-time whenever I implement new messages:

Timeframe / Message / Rationale
Spring (April-May) /“Focus is our focus”/ Spirit of re-birth, echoes our founder’s philosophy
June / “Bigger. Smarter. Faster. Better.” / Get ready for Summer!
July / “Gargantually Good” / Like America, whose b-day we celebrate
August / “We make the things that make things made better” / Sluggish late summer audience suited to long messages
September / “Expect Less. Deliver More” / Back to school attitude
October / “Why Not?” / The Tao of Halloween
Holidays (Nov-Dec) / “From our people to your people” / We are Christmas

Item 3: CAT v. “The Man”

Unexpected push back from Network Admin on my global CAT program distribution. They refused to permit e-mails to all employees without prior management approval. Seeking appropriate feedback [link to voice mail transcript] and signatures from senior execs as we speak, prior to full plan implementation. I take your silence on the issue as an affirmation, thank you!

Item 4: GlobaCorp Proposal

Any word? I assume we’re a “go”, but let me know if you’d feel more comfortable waiting to start work until we get the actual signed agreement.

As always, you can reach me on my cell phone (though Jen is vacationing in the Adirondacks and may be out of range), or via e-mail to my Blackberry (doesn’t generally work when I’m indoors).

Voice Mail To JB Calhoun (linked from above text)

[Manny = JB’s Boss. GargantiCo COO Maaunoay Paoupaso]

Voice Mail Voice: Friday, March 29, Eight Fifty Seven P.M., ONE new messages

[beep beep beep]

Manny’s Voice: J.B.. Manny here. Got your team’s memo on this CAT initiative. Just learned The Damn Board wants us to review all global conventions and standards with them before implementation – bleeping policy issues. So this may have to wait until the June meeting. But I’ve asked Toronto to put together a working group to come up with a recommendation. We’re going to see if we can fast-track it.

JB, looks like a lot of work went into this. I’ll take it to the mat for you – you know how I feel about my people. I’m gonna need a carve out on the scheme because my name shortens to “Mny Pps”, but we’ll worry about that later.

Set something up with Margie – we also gotta talk about The Numbers.
